Health Information Exchange (HIE) in the District

Three HIE entities provide exchange services in the District.

 

Chesapeake Regional Information for Our Patients (CRISP)

Services provided to District:

  • Encounter Notification Service (ENS)
  • Reporting Services
  • Clinical Query Portal
  • CRISP in the Workflow
  • Unified Landing Page

Capital Partners in Care Health Information Exchange (CPC-HIE)

Services provided to District:

  • Safety-net provider network that includes Federally Qualified Health Centers
  • eClinicalWorks EHR information
  • eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange (eEHX) hub
  • Participating providers share patient encounter and treatment information
  • Single-sign-on (SSO) connection to CRISP

Children’s Integrated Quality Network (CIQN)

Services provided to District:

  • Improves care for pediatric patients
  • Affiliated with Children’s National Health System
  • Uses the eClinicalWorks Electronic Health eXchange (eEHX) hub
  • Participating providers on eClinicalWorks and other EHR systems share patient information

CRISP Alerts for COVID-19 Cases

 

CRISP DC now provides alerts when your patient tests positive or negative for COVID-19, as well as confirmed cases, as reported to DC Health and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). Full information is available on the CRISP DC website.

COVID-19 alerts are made available to a patient’s care team based upon:

    Z

    A list of positive cases sent to CRISP from DC Health and Maryland Department of Health.

      Z
      Positive and negative lab results from LabCorp and Quest lab feeds across the region (These results are currently limited to ordering physicians that are CRISP participants with executed lab request forms within our system).
      Z
      Positive and negative results from hospitals performing COVID-19 tests in the District, which are reporting them to CRISP during the state of emergency.

      To view COVID-19 alerts within ENS PROMPT accounts

      1. Navigate to the “Add Filter” drop down at the top of the screen
      2. Select the “Diagnosis Description” category
      3. A list of options will appear to the right of the category, select “contains”
      4. Type the term “COVID” into the open field
      5. Within the “Custom Filter” field, type the desired name of the custom filter then click “Save”
      6. Once you’ve created the filter, alerts for both positive and negative test results as well as confirmed cases will automatically populate
      7. Remember:
        • Saved custom filters will always be available for future use within the “Saved Custom Filter” drop down
        • Saved filters are not automatically applied to your notifications. Upon logging in, you must select and apply your custom filters prior to viewing alerts

      To view COVID-19 alerts within Patient Snapshot

      • In the Care Alert widget within Patient Snapshot, users will be able to see if a particular patient has been added to the list of confirmed cases sent to CRISP

      The following HIE tools are available for District providers:

      Encounter Notification Service (ENS)

      ENS enables physicians to receive real-time alerts when a patient is hospitalized.

      Patient Care Snapshot

      • On-demand web-based service
      • Accessed through the Unified Landing Page
      • Aggregates clinical and non-clinical patient data

      CQM Aligned Population Reporting (CALIPR) Tool

      • Electronic clinical quality measurement (eCQM) tool
      • Aggregates and analyzes data captured through continuity of care documents (CCDs) submitted to HIE and Medicaid claims
      • Calculates provider performance against quality measures for assigned patients

      Clinical Query Portal

      Retrieves clinical data from participants and displays at point of care. Available data includes: lab results, radiology reports, discharge summaries, history and physical examinations, consultations, operative notes, transfer summaries, and prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) data.

      Population Health Analytics

      • Provides population and patient-level utilization dashboards 
      • Facilitates implementation of targeted intervention strategies
      • Monitors patient outcomes and utilization patterns
      • Summarizes patient healthcare costs across providers of care
      • Stratifies risk for patient population
